Hang Tsyr is represented by Anthony Tai, Roger Chin and Sempurai Petrus. Hoe Ing pleaded guilty to the alternative charge and was sentenced to 16 years’ jail on Oct 1, 2013. The principal offender in the case, Ling Hoe Ing, has been charged and convicted under alternative charge under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. He recalled during the trip to Thailand, Wong and Elizabeth behaved as friends while Wong’s mother was always with her sister. “Initially, we intended to go together, but after she had been transferred to another bank, she was unable to get leave, thus did not join us,” he said. He also told the court that the accused was invited to join the trip to Thailand, but she could not take leave. “After the nominee had been changed, the accused did not query me,” Ting said. “He (Wong) told me he would tell the accused himself. When asked by Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Mohd Fillany Siji, Ting said when Wong decided to change the nominee to his mother, he did tell Wong that the accused should be informed. “I was together with the deceased, his mother and Elizabeth during the trip to Thailand,” he said. He said Elizabeth also bought insurance policy from him. He said Elizabeth was an ex-colleague of Wong and he got to know Elizabeth through Wong. Ting said he knew Law and Elizabeth because they once went to Thailand together. He said Wong’s mother, Law Boh Ing, knew Elizabeth Ling, a girl who allegedly had an affair with Wong. “He bought one insurance policy for himself and two for his children,” Ting told the court when cross-examined by defence counsel Roger Chin. “At first, the nominee of all the insurance policies he bought from me was in the name of the accused, but in March 2012, he changed the nominee to his mother. “However, in March 2012, Wong changed the nominee to his mother due to their rocky marriage. He told the court that Wong bought one insurance policy for himself and two for his children, nominating his wife as the beneficiary. Testifying as a prosecution witness yesterday was a friend of Wong and Ling, 37-year-old Peter Ting Tiong Pang, an insurance agent. The charge under Section 109 and Section 302 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same code provides for a mandatory death sentence if convicted. His wife, Christine Ling Hang Tsyr, and her male companion Andrew Tiong King Guan are facing a charge of abetting the murder of Wong at a house in Ulu Sg Merah about 1.30am on June 14.
